Welcome back to another blog post by yours truly… the big cheese. I am pumped as always to find myself writing a blog post on this beautiful Tuesday morning. I wanted to share a little something that we have been chatting about lately in theater.
In case you didn’t know, I am in a production of Paradise Park Zoo at Augsburg University. I play a human female named Cynthia. The best way to describe her is that she is what AI thinks a woman from the 1950s is by just looking at propaganda advertisements from that time period. My production had its first two opening shows this past weekend. There will be 4 more performances next week if you are interested!
Anyhow, going into tech week my director mentioned the importance of radical kindness as everything gets crazy in our own lives with the show. I found this idea to be very important and applicable for many of us now more than ever with the stress and chaos in our lives. When I say radical kindness I am not just talking about being kind to everyone. That is very important, but this is a step beyond that. Radical kindness means stepping up to the plate to really help others if you have extra spoons to give. Not everyone has enough spoons or forks in their cabinet drawers to eat dinner or lunch sometimes. If you have extra utensils you should share them with others.
We share utensils by doing over the top gestures of kindness. Like writing thank you letters, sending check-ins, doing someone’s chores, or even opening the door for others among a plethora of other things. Radical kindness is all about stepping out of your normal kindness box and doing something to help make someone’s day or take care of them.
I want to challenge all of you reading this blog post to do one act of radical kindness for somebody in your life today. Please just reach out no matter how small the act of kindness may be. I promise that this will make you feel better as well as the person that you do it for feel amazing! Perhaps if your spoons are running low someone will share a few more with you this week… Just one kind act is all it can take to seriously make someone’s week!
Until my next blog post… the big cheese out 💖🧀
